Thesis Submission Requirements

All graduate and postgraduate students are required to write a thesis as part of their degree program. The following guidelines have been established to help the student in this process.
  •  The student is advised to take the course Mechanics of Research early in his/her academic program.
  •  The thesis prospectus is due on or before October 15 the year prior to anticipated graduation.
  •  The first draft of the thesis is due to the mentor on or before February 15 in the year graduation is anticipated.
  •  Three copies of the final draft of the thesis is due to the Graduate Studies Committee on or before April 1 in the year graduation is anticipated.
  •  Students will be provided an opportunity to defend their thesis findings in late April.
  •  Two bound presentation copies of the thesis are due to the library on or before May 15. The thesis must be prepared in conformity with the Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, by Kate L. Turabian as specified in the Mechanics of Research course and bound according to specifications established by the college library.
  •  Students who have failed to meet these deadlines will not be permitted to graduate.
 

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)

With the increase in the number of churches in Canada and the growth in their spiritual maturity, there is an acute need to introduce a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) program for pastors and other Christian workers to improve their professional skills for ministry. The D.Min. program is the highest professional degree for those who are engaged in local church ministries, world missions and other related practical ministry.

Entrance Requirements
  •  The student must have an M.Div. with a grade point average of 3.0 or above (out of a 4.0 scale) or the second class honour. The student with a grade point average between 3.0 and 2.5 will be admitted on probation.
  •  The student should have at least 5 years of full-time ministry and prove to be successful in his/her ministry.
  •  Language requirements: (a) The student should have a working knowledge of the original languages of the Bible; and (b) The student should have a proficient knowledge of English besides his/her own national language.

  • Non-M.Div. holders may be considered for admission under the following criteria:

  •  A minimum of 6 years of study beyond the secondary school level of which at least three years must be at the M.Div. level or equivalent.
  •  A B.Th. plus a minimum of two additional years of study either at the M.A. level or M.Th.S. level.
Applicants admitted under these special criteria must be at least 35 years old and have a minimum of 5 years of full-time ministry experience.

Doctor of Ministry Thesis Requirements

The candidate must produce an original thesis demonstrating his ability to perform Biblical and theological research on a scholarly level. The thesis is to be concerned with the exegesis of Scripture, employing the original languages as appropriate, either for the purpose of clarifying the meaning of some particular term(s) or passage(s) in Scripture; or for the purpose of clarifying the Biblical evidence relating to some issue(s) of theological significance.

The thesis must contain not fewer than 150 pages (37,000 words) of text material, but approval shall be based on theological content and literary excellence rather than length. Six hours of academic credit, as a part of the 36 hours required for the Doctor of Ministry degree, will be granted for the thesis project. Students who have not prepared a thesis as part of their graduate studies will be required to take Mechanics of Research as a non-credit course.

  Doctor of Christian Counselling (D.C.C.)

Courses to qualify for a Doctor of Christian Counselling degree will be offered at the college during the winter and summer session each year. Students enrolled in a Doctor of Christian Counselling program achieve candidate status when they complete the six required courses and submit an acceptable thesis prospectus.

Entrance Requirements:
  •  The student must have a Master of Christian Counselling with a grade point average of 3.0 or above (out of a 4.0 scale) or second class honours. The student with a grade point average between 3.0 and 2.5 will be admitted on probation.
Non-Master of Christian Counselling degree holders may be considered for admission to the program under the following criteria:
  •  A minimum of 5 years of study beyond the secondary school level of which at least two years must be at the Masters level.
  •  A B.Th. degree plus a minimum of two additional years of study either at the M.C.C. level or M.Th.S. level.


Both B.C.C. & M.C.C. are required for all counselling courses.

The thesis is to be concerned with an examination of selected issues, theories or topics within the field of Christian Counselling and for the purpose of clarifying the Biblical evidence relating to these issue(s) of theological counselling significance.

The thesis must contain not fewer than 150 pages (37,000 words) of text material, but approval shall be based on theological content and literary excellence rather than length. Six hours of academic credit, as a part of the 36 hours required for the Doctor of Christian Counselling degree, will be granted for the thesis project. Students who have not prepared a thesis as part of their graduate studies will be required to take Mechanics of Research as a non-credit course.

  Doctor of Sacred Music (D.S.M.)

The purpose of this degree is to equip the graduates for teaching, research and leadership in Church and Sacred Music. The goals that Canada Christian College has adopted for this program includes the mastery of the various disciplines in the study of music. These include the liturgical and historical repertory of church music, competence in a performance area and the capacity to engage in research and teaching.

This program requires the equivalent of three years of full-time study, beyond the M.S.M. Courses, seminars and colloquia for this degree shall be completed on the main campus of Canada Christian College.

The program shall contain a major emphasis on music performance and the completion of a Teacher’s or Performer’s A.R.C.T. (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto) diploma.


Entrance Requirements:
  •  The student should have a M.S.M degree.
Candidates without a Master of Sacred Music degree may be considered for admission to the program under the following criteria:
  •  The presentation of an acceptable plan for completing the normal requirements for the Master of Sacred Music Degree during the course of study for the doctorate.
Admission may also be based on appropriate performance and academic ability of the candidate, combined with the potential, in the eyes of the faculty, to contribute to church music leadership.
