Business and Communications Program:

Canada Christian College, recognizing the need for practical training in business communications and marketing for commerce and modern day ministry, offers professional education in these diversified fields. There is a need for skills in communications and marketing for business, non-profit and religious organizations. This department prepares students to serve in a commercial or religious setting.

The Communications and Business Departments prepare people for ministry in the marketplace. Students who want a Christian education with practical training for the business world and religious services can now have the best of both worlds taught by professional staff. Canada Christian College teaches students how to develop newsletters, newspapers, magazines, radio, television, audio and video cassette production for modern day ministry.

Communications and Marketing Department Directors:

Rev. Will Rooen
has more than forty years experience as a journalist, editor, publisher, speech writer, government and business communicatior and marketer consultanting. He is currently working on multi-media/internet publishing, and teaches journalism, radio, and television production United States and Canada .

A graduate of York University in Business Administration, and a member of the Society for Professional Accountants of Canada, Roma Hewitt has over twenty-five years of accounting experience and presently owns Reliable Accounting & Tax Services. She also lectures, part-time, at one of the leading Colleges in Toronto. Roma ministers to her students as an integral part of the complete success package that she offers to them.



Journalismming
This course is designed to help the student develop basic skills in writing for publication. The student will gain experience in writing how-to-do-it articles, feature articles, biographical materials, narrative or adventure articles and devotional materials.


Desk Top Publishing
Utilizing the personal computer to prepare copy for printing using word processing, graphics and windows and desk top publishing programs are taught. Students are introduced to Word, PageMaker and QuarkXPress. They learn how to prepare low cost advertising, publications, newsletters, brochures, bulletins and programs.


Radio Broadcast
The weekly News Hour will be produced by students. This non-denominational Christian news program will focus on events and information of interest to the Christian community. Weekly interviews of Christian news makers will be presented. Students will also prepare audio cassettes of teaching material. Students will participate in every area of production: scripting, audio, engineering, directing and producing.


Introduction to Business
The importance of good stewardship is well recognized in the Bible. Reports of businesses going “under” simply because of bad money management are all too familiar to us all. This is also true in the case of religious organizations. Additionally, individuals and families are not immune to the adverse effects of mishandling money. Monetaring problems, in fact, constitute a major cause for family breakdowns.


Introduction to Computer Based Systems
Learning the basics of a computer and its applications; introducing hardware, peripherals, operating systems, software, word processing, database management, communications, networking, cd drives, graphics; and voice receptions.


Introduction to Small Business
This course looks first at the growing importance of small business in Canada. Students learn how to prepare a business plan that would be generally acceptable to financial institutions. The course looks at how to identify principal customers and competitors and how to go about looking for capital to fund the business. The preparation of cash flow statements and how to project income and expenses is also covered along with a brief look at preparing balance sheets. Finally the topics of marketing, promoting and advertising small businesses are covered.


Business Formation
The business formation course will give the student a strong background in the forms of business ownership. We will also examine entrepreneurship and franchising. The course will address the fundamentals involved in starting a small business.


Business Administration
Management leadership will be thoroughly studied leading the student to organize a business and manage production and operations. Modern management tools in the information age will be offered.


Bookkeeping & Accounting
This course covers journal entries, general ledger posting, payroll entries, cost and PST entries, bank reconciliations, spreadsheets, income and expenditure accounts, trial balances and the balance sheet. Students are also encouraged to test their knowledge by utilizing a computerized accounting software package in their home environment.


Business Math
This course will cover all aspects of computational skills with the goal of giving the student sufficient math skills to successfully operate in a business environment.


Business Writing
The student will discover the fundamentals of writing to communicate business objectives with clarity and effectiveness.


Business Computers
This course will give a the student a working knowledge of computer applications that will assist in the development of efficient business operations.


Human Resource Management
This course introduces the student to human resources/ personnel functions. There is an emphasis on how managers can deal with and utilize human resource functions.


Marketing
A study of marketing functions and institutions involved in the production and distribution of goods and services from producer to consumer.


Business Law
Designed to increase the understanding of those legal principles which apply to normal business transactions. Contracts, labour-management responsibilities, property, insurance, partnerships, corporations, wills and trusts, torts, and business crimes are among the topics discussed.


Advertising
An examination of the principles and procedures applied to the analysis of products, buyer attitudes, copy and layout. The management of advertising departments, agencies and campaigns are studied along with economic, social and ethical effects of advertising.


Television Broadcasting and Production
